Bio

Downing started on ice skill development after retiring in 2021 from professional hockey. The Michigan native is in his first season behind the bench for Detroit Catholic Central serving as an assistant coach.

Prior to coaching, Downing played two seasons in the USHL and spent time with the NTDP. From there he attended the University of Michigan for three seasons playing in 105 games a tallying 54 points. Downing signed his first NHL contract after his junior year playing 6 years of professional hockey between the AHL and ECHL where he later medically retired in 2021 due to numerous concussions.

Downing’s new found passion in life is to be a mentor on and off the ice for as many players as possible to help them understand the sacrifice and commitment it takes to play at the highest levels.
